“There HAS to be a better way to do this teaching thing, right?”

We’ve all asked ourselves that at some point, and I bet these statements sound familiar, too:

  • I’m completely overwhelmed.
  • Being a teacher has consumed every spare minute of my life.
  • I work on school stuff constantly and yet I’m never done…and I still feel like I’m not doing enough.
  • When I bring work home, I feel guilty for neglecting my family.
  • I’m tired all the time, my house is a wreck, my errands keep piling up, and I’m not taking good care of myself.
  • I don’t know how much longer I can go on like this.
  • Something has to change.

My friend, you’re not alone. Every single day, I hear from teachers all around the country who are drowning in guilt and exhaustion over losing the battle for work/life balance.

Becky Burley's Story

"I thought I had done all that I could in terms of being productive and efficient. I accepted that this is what teaching was-a 24/7 stress cycle with some time off in the summer to recharge again. The club is teaching me that there are better, healthier ways to live as a teacher AND still be a great one."

The 40 Hour Teacher Workweek Club is about
finding a better way to teach that is actually sustainable.

You might be wondering…

And, most importantly:

I’m Angela Watson…

…a National Board Certified Teacher with 11 years of classroom experience and 7 years experience as an instructional coach.

I’ve been freely sharing hundreds of articles and resources on my website The Cornerstone since 2003, but I didn’t have a comprehensive solution for teachers’ biggest problem: a lack of TIME and ENERGY. I’ve now spent the last three years developing and refining the club content to create a research-based system that has already saved the sanity of thousands of teachers. Read on to learn how the club can help you get out of survival mode and love your work even more.

How does the club work?

Actionable Steps Each Week

You’ll get 52 WEEKS of new classroom-tested productivity ideas in both PDF and audio podcast form. We’ll go step-by-step through each focus area. Choose just 1 idea each week, & watch as small changes add up to big results!

Positive, Supportive Community

You can finally stop reinventing the wheel! Hundreds of other teachers will be sharing ideas and resources, answering your questions, and providing encouragement and accountability. You don’t have to do this alone!

Printables & Templates

More than $350 worth of forms and teacher resources are included. Some are club-exclusive; others are curated from the best of the digital marketplace so you don’t have to spend time + money searching them out.

Free Bonus Materials

The complete 40HTW List-Making System and The Big 5 Tips for Teacher Productivity are available as soon as you join. Many members say these resources transformed the way they approach their work AND their life.

PD Certificate

Use our professional development log to track your learning if you’d like. At the end of your year in the club, you’ll receive a certificate for documentation. Your district may credit you for up to 104 continuing education hours.

Ongoing Support Indefinitely

You’ll keep your access to the membership site AND the Facebook community when your year is over at no charge! Revisit the resources and get support even as a club graduate, so you can maintain your new habits permanently.

Is the club really about working 40 hours?

Nope–but the “Choose Your Own Target Number That’s Realistic for Your Teaching Context and Adjust It Each Week for the Current Demands on Your Time Club” didn’t have quite the same ring to it!

40 is the number of contractual hours many educators are required to work (and it was MY target number as a classroom teacher.) The number 40 is designed to take you aback and get you thinking:

Wait, 40? Is that even possible? How many hours do I actually work? I wonder how many I COULD work, if I was more intentional and strategic with my time?

As a member, you’ll be encouraged to start by trimming 3-5 hours off your current workweek, and slowly lower that number throughout your year in the club.

The real goal of the club is to get organized, streamline routines, give kids ownership of the classroom, and be truly intentional about how you use your instructional, contractual, and personal time...and through that process, you’ll trim 3,5, or even 10+ hours off your workweek.

of members choose to remain in the club beyond the initial 30 day cancellation period

of members who joined last January began saving 3+ hours/wk within their first 14 days

Who is the club designed to help?

The club resources are targeted toward general education K-12 teachers in the United States. The materials are ideal for 1st-6th grade teachers, but we have successful club members teaching at every grade level.

About 10% of our members teach internationally (primarily in Canada and Australia, followed by Europe.)

Around 60% of members are elementary and 35% are middle/high school teachers. The vast majority teach in self-contained settings, though we do have some special educators and specialists (music, art, foreign language, technology, etc.)

The materials are not tied to a specific curriculum or set of standards, and are designed to be applicable to your work throughout your career, no matter what grade level or subject area you teach. This is about YOU, your habits, and your mindset, not what you teach!

Take the interactive quiz to see what results you, personally, can expect with the club.

Tracey's Story

"I learned through the club experience that one of my biggest obstacles was the weight of the expectations I had put on myself. I was trying to do way too much, but I thought that I HAD TO in order to be a good teacher. I expected to cart that bag full of papers home every night, even though I knew I wouldn't finish them.

I took a club challenge to go one week without bringing my "teacher bag" home. It's now four months later and I have not brought it home even one time, but I'm still getting everything done at school in about 43 hours a week.

Joining this group was more than worth it. It is literally one of the best things I have ever done for myself. For those who want to enjoy teaching, the 40 Hour Teacher Workweek club deserves a chance. It helped ME love this job again, so I know that can happen for anyone."

How can I get support in making the strategies for work me?

The Facebook community will help you keep up and adapt the club strategies for YOUR unique teaching context. As a club member (and even after your year is up!), you’ll have 24/7 access to a private Facebook group for elementary or secondary educators where you can ask questions, discuss time-saving strategies that have worked for you, and get advice from other teachers.

I personally check into the group on regular basis to answer questions and facilitate discussions, and my co-moderators (who are classroom teachers and graduates of the club) ensure that every question receives helpful responses.

Participation in the Facebook group is entirely optional, but many club members view it as an integral part of their success. You’ll get the best results from the club by checking in to the group once or twice a week, and skimming through the posts to find encouragement, accountability, and productivity tips other members have discovered.

Rubie Jones

"I love this club! Angela, with all the high quality work you have put into this course, you could have easily quadrupled the price. I haven't even used all the strategies yet and have still gotten more than my money's worth."

I like the idea of a 40 Hour Teacher Workweek Club, but….

We accept purchase orders for the club so your school can pay for your membership out of PTA or PD funds.

If more teachers at your school are interested in joining, we also have school licensing available. This includes access to all materials for the entire program up front, as well as discussion questions for each month, professional development videos, and monthly strategies to create a productive school culture. School licensing can be purchased 365 days a year, since it includes access to all modules and can be implemented at any time. Learn more about school licensing and purchase orders here.

If you can’t get your school or district to pay for the club, no worries, there are lots of other ways to join the club at no cost to you. Click here to learn more about gift certificates, scholarships, and DonorsChoose projects which can cover your payment.

A big part of the 40HTW is being intentional with your time. It’s important to take a few minutes each weekend and make a to-list for the week ahead and plan your target number of hours to work. During this time, you’re encouraged to check out the new productivity strategies that were sent to you on Saturday morning and choose the ones you want to implement.

Of course, that’s an ideal scenario, and there will be weekends when you can’t do this. Good news: all the 40HTW content is right on your mobile device. So instead of scrolling absent-mindedly through social media posts while waiting for your doctor’s appointment to begin or for your kids’ soccer practice to end, you can be skimming over ideas that save you time in your membership library.

And, most of us check social media throughout the day as a little break–you can funnel that habit into something productive, and make the 40HTW Club on Facebook your go-to group. Just spending a few minutes scrolling through the posts there will give you insight as to how other teachers are managing the pressure to do it all.

All the club content is also provided in audio form, so you can listen while driving, exercising, cooking, cleaning, or doing any of your regular daily tasks. Many of our members stay current with the club content by listening each week on their commute to and from school.

Absolutely! Even though we have a defined focus each month, the club is entirely self-paced, and there’s really no such thing as “falling behind.” You can go back to access previous content in the membership site at ANY time, even after you graduate from the club. You even keep your access to the Facebook community so you always have a strong support network.

The club isn’t designed to be another obligation you have to keep up with–it’s a lifeline that supports you, and is there whenever you need it.

The club is about breaking free from traditional ways of teaching and learning that frankly don’t work well for kids OR teachers. If your instruction is paperless, differentiated, 1:1, mixed grade levels, project-based, or any other non-traditional format, the club will help support you with that.

We have members teaching just about every grade level, subject area, and student population you can possibly imagine. I’ve found that a positive mindset and commitment to the club have a far greater impact on members’ success than the particulars of their teaching situations. If you are determined to create change in your life, you will find ways to make the club worth your while, no matter what!

However, it’s very important to me that every person who joins feels like they receive value far beyond the price paid. I want you to have a clear understanding of what to expect from the club.

For that reason, I’ve created an interactive quiz to help you figure out exactly how useful for the club will be for YOU. You’ll find 5 questions to help you determine if the CONTENT of the club will be a good fit, and 7 questions to weigh out whether the STRUCTURE of the club will fit your needs. Scroll down to take the quiz below.

No! Giving students stacks of worksheets each day would be one of the least efficient, effective ways to teach and in direct opposition to the purposes of the club.

Many of the printables are forms and templates designed for YOU to use (not your students) to help with data management, lesson planning, grading, etc.

The printables designed for students are things like classroom job resources, growth mindset activities, and activities to help you build a strong classroom culture. A variety of materials are provided so you can choose what works best for your students, and many are editable so you can easily adapt them.

Think about the confusion and disruption that occurs when a new student enters your class mid-year. It’s always better when a group of students begin at the same time and stick together until the year is over, and the same is true for the club!

A limited enrollment period creates a sense of community and allows members to join in cohorts so no one has to wander in alone and feel lost. When you join, you’ll have the support of other teachers who are progressing through each focus area in the same order as you, at the same time as you, so that you can share ideas and support one another.

Nope, there’s nothing impractical here. I don’t claim to have any miraculous solutions. I can’t eliminate lesson planning or make a stack of ungraded papers disappear. The 40HTW is about making a series of small changes to your life that add up to big results.

In one of the weekly PDFs you’ll receive, I’ll help you figure out ways to streamline a single daily routine and shave 15 minutes off your work day. The next week, I’ll suggest another set of practices that help you get a dreaded task done 5 minute quicker. The week after that, I’ll share some strategies for rethinking your approach to the next task, and you’ll be leaving school another 10 minutes earlier than you thought.

Since you’ll be focusing on just one area of time management per month, and one aspect of that area per week, you’ll be implementing just a few small, manageable changes at any given time. This sustainable pace, combined with the support of other innovative teachers who share how they’re adapting the ideas for their classrooms, will allow you to gradually develop a personalized system that shaves 3, 5, or even 10 hours off your workweek.

The 40HTW is not about shortchanging kids or refusing to follow district directives. None of your principal’s or state’s requirements need to be changed in order for you to benefit from this club. In fact, you’ll be better empowered to complete whatever is required of you as you learn to work more efficiently.

In the 40HTW Club, we don’t complain about or dwell on the parts of teaching we can’t change. The club’s focus is on making teaching a more enjoyable and sustainable profession at the grassroots level—right in your own classroom–by improving the way you use your time. In fact, over 85% of members surveyed said they felt that the club had made them a better teacher.

If you really want to get your admin on board, show him or her the school licensing page for the club or pass along the admin brochure. You might even be able to get PD funds to cover your membership!

The club will challenge you to rethink commonly-held assumptions about what you “have to do” as a teacher. It’s a tough truth that you must be prepared to confront: sometimes we blame outside authorities for our workload when deeper reflection will reveal that the expectation is at least partly self-imposed, or the approach we’ve taken to complete the task is more stressful and time-consuming than it needs to be.

I can’t remove or lessen the demands that have been placed on you. But I CAN help you understand how the mindset, daily routines, and teaching practices you CHOOSE are continually making those demands easier or harder to meet. The goal is to help you figure out a personalized system for tackling those non-negotiable requirements in more effective, efficient, and enjoyable ways. It absolutely can be done, and you’ll have lots of support as you figure out how.

Well, you’re certainly welcome to try! However, judging from the number of stressed out and exhausted teachers I know, it seems that work/life balance isn’t usually as simple as getting a few tips from veteran teachers. It’s also not very efficient to continually spend hours cobbling together random free stuff from various websites.

The best comparison I can give is this: Tons of people successfully lose weight without following a specific diet program or joining a gym. But many other people find it’s a lot easier when they follow a proven system that’s already been figured out for them. They also realize they get better results when they have support and accountability.

The club is designed to provide a step-by-step system for teachers who want ongoing support, resources, and community around productivity. I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s been life changing for hundreds of teachers, and I’m proud to be able to offer this service for those who want it.

I’ve been sharing best teaching practices on my website since 2003. There are thousands of teachers who have been following me online for over a decade. Hundreds of my readers have taught alongside me, been coached or mentored by me, invited me to speak at their conferences, or hired me to conduct professional development in their schools. My professional reputation is on the line with this club! I wouldn’t risk all of that by making promises I can’t keep.

Check out my website. My four books. My podcast. The 40HTW is more of the same type of content I’ve been sharing for years: practical, classroom-tested strategies that can be adapted for a wide variety of contexts.

Hundreds of teachers are already in the club’s Facebook group talking about how the club has changed their lives. When you get started, you’ll be learning not only from me, but from other educators who’ve achieved better work/life balance and know firsthand that there IS a better way.

Will the club really get results for YOU?

Take this 12 question personalized quiz to find out!

The first 5 questions determine if the CONTENT of the club will be a good match for your teaching situation. The final 7 questions tell you if the STRUCTURE of the club will fit your preferences and personality.

“I don’t really want to invest in a whole system–I’m afraid I won’t have time to use it and it’ll be a waste of money. I’ll just try to figure out something simpler on my own for free.”

You can certainly try–but be honest. Will you?

If you’re already exhausted on a daily basis, when will you have time to figure out ways to streamline?

And how will you do it? After all, if the solution was as simple as asking a few colleagues for advice, wouldn’t you have already discovered a solid system?

If spending hours cobbling together random free stuff from various websites was enough to streamline your work, wouldn’t you be feeling less overwhelmed?

Let’s be real about what will happen if you don’t decide you really want to create change.

Deciding how to establish more productive habits will ONE MORE THING you wish you had time to do but just can’t prioritize.

You’ll continue to come home each night completely worn out with hours of school work still ahead of you. That feeling of never being finished, and never being able to totally relax will still be a daily struggle, for the rest of your career.

This problem doesn’t go away if you keep putting it on the back burner.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
You (and your family) deserve better.

I promise you, from my own experience and that of thousands of teachers who I’ve coached through the club:

Teaching does NOT have to be an all-consuming job that leaves you with nothing left to give to yourself and those you care about. You can be an amazing teacher and still have a personal life.

YOU are worth the investment. Gaining more FREE TIME is worth the investment.

If you can learn how to take back even 3 hours a week for the rest of your teaching career, wouldn’t that be MORE than worth $119.99?

The best comparison I can give is this: You can get in shape without spending a dime on a specific diet program or gym. But when you feel like being fit is a constant battle, and you keep losing and gaining the same weight over and over for years, eventually you may decide:

“ENOUGH. I want PERMANENT results, not a temporary fix. The only way to get this problem in check for the long haul is if I have accountability and a proven system so I don’t have to maintain results on my own.”

That’s what the club is designed to offer for productivity: a step-by-step system for teachers who want ongoing support, resources, and community around work/life balance. We’ll help you figure out a SUSTAINABLE way to be an outstanding teacher–a system that actually works for YOUR life and teaching context.

The club isn’t a formula that only works if you do it all perfectly: it’s a collection of strategies so you can pick just what makes sense for you.

Everything you need to know about productive teaching is consolidated into workable action plans–implement the ones that address your biggest needs. No more guessing about what you need to change and how.

You’ve got access to me and 4 other mentors in the club (along with hundreds of fellow members). We’ll guide you through implementing the strategies, answer questions, and help you stay motivated.

Trust the process, knowing that it’s designed to create permanent results, which means you don’t have to change everything at once.

Go at your own pace through the materials in the order I’ve designated. Resist the temptation to streamline a little bit of everything or rush ahead to the areas that feel most urgent: that’s what creates overwhelm. Stick to the focus area for each month–you’re in this for the long game, and your efforts will pay off!

You don’t have to do it all. Small changes add up to big results…and you’ll start seeing improvement right away.

You can skip weeks and come back to them even after your year is over–you never lose access to the membership site or Facebook group. You’ll still get results with the club, even if you don’t keep up as well as you’d like.

Some of the biggest changes you’ll experience won’t be from DOING anything: they’re simply a result of changing the way you THINK about your habits and priorities. Listen to the audio MP3s, and just soak in the encouragement, positivity, and motivating ideas. It won’t take long before you find yourself learning to ask the right questions, and naturally filtering all your tasks through the lens of what’s the best and highest use of your time.

Over time, the club will help you approach your work (and your life) with a completely new mindset. I’m going to teach you how to think like a truly productive person so you can continue to streamline on your own in every aspect of life.

You have nothing to lose by giving this a shot–get a full refund within 30 days if you don’t think the club is going to help you create change.

If I haven’t made my heart and intention totally clear yet, let me emphasize: I really, really don’t want to see any teacher continue to struggle with work/life balance, and I’ve tried to remove any obstacles that might keep you feeling stuck.

The club is the simplest, most comprehensive solution you’ll find, and it’s been proven to work for thousands of teachers, all over the world. I’ve made it as affordable as a year-long program with indefinite support could possibly be. And, I’ve taken out all the risk by guaranteeing results.

I believe that change is possible for any teacher, and that means it’s possible for YOU, too. The only question left is this: will you choose to value your time and yourself enough to take action?

All you have to do is take the first step, and join us. The club’s community will be there to help you figure out the rest.
